HagerSmith Wins NAIOP Award
The NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association) Raleigh Durham Chapter announced the large project of the year at their NAIOP NC Conference in Pinehurst on Thursday, March 30. The NAIOP of North Carolina presented seven awards recognizing volunteerism and leadership in development in NC. We are very grateful to have been on the team awarded the Large Project of the Year by NAIOP for our work on the Center for Technology & Innovation Building.
About the Project
This project started as a request for proposal from North Carolina State University to complete a new building to contain industrial space for the Nonwovens Institute(NWI) located on the award winning Centennial Campus. We teamed up with local developer Keystone Corporation to complete a feasibility study. The result of the study concluded that the 40,000 sf of the industrial space could indeed be built on the ground floor of the steep sloping site. Despite the unique challenge it created, an additional two stories (60,000 sf) of Class A office/lab could also be created on top of the industrial space. The building has many unique features including a multi-story lobby with lounge, a 50 foot industrial high bay space that houses NWI’s large spunbond machine, and a parking deck with a covered bridge to the building. The project was completed in March 2017 and is currently in the process of acquiring LEED Silver certification. We are very proud of the built product, and are exceptionally grateful for being chosen as the Large Project of the Year by NAIOP.
