California-based data storage company Nimble Storage opened their East Coast office in Durham in 2013. Due to their hyper-growth only a short year later, they were forced to look for a new facility that would provide the space they need now and into the future. 1015 Swabia Ct in Durham was selected due to its large (87,000 SF) one-story footprint, proximity to RTP, and the landscaped courtyard which the building wraps entirely around. The exterior shell of the building is almost entirely glass with a large porch overhang providing excellent daylight throughout the space. The interior needed a major facelift in order to represent Nimble’s culture of openness & collaboration. HagerSmith worked closely with the client’s design architect to ensure Nimble’s corporate standards were maintained. The 46,000 SF interior renovations includes a 3600 SF data center, approximately 150 open workstations, a large multi-purpose break room that can seat the whole office, a fitness center, a game area, and other supporting spaces. The space is designed with a spine of conference and informal meeting rooms down the middle and is then surrounded with open office cubes to the building exterior. In order to promote a people-centric culture, there are no hard-wall offices and many informal collaboration areas are located throughout. HagerSmith is currently helping the client with future planning within the space.
