The Siemens Medical Solutions project began with a request for a new 6 story, 150,000 SF (combined total with Café and basement 162,500 SF) office and training building with accompanying 600 space parking structure on a site adjacent to two existing SMS buildings which had little connectivity due to a picturesque, heavily wooded ravine which ran between them. HagerSmith Design initiated a master planning effort with Siemens Medical Solutions to determine how the new facilities could be used to integrate the site. The outcome is a pedestrian oriented campus with the new office building, parking structure, and 225 seat café building oriented along the ravine which is preserved as open space. New and existing buildings are interconnected with covered walkways and a new 125’ pedestrian bridge.
Design of the building responds to the nearby precast concrete and glass Training and Development Center while creating a new, high tech image by adding metal panels to the palette. The building’s east-west orientation optimizes daylighting and minimizes heat gain. East and west facades have reduced glazed area. The interior is designed for daylighting and employee views to the exterior. The program includes a customer briefing center, two call centers and administrative offices.
